Who is the instructor? Samantha is the only creative dance instructor at Oasis Dance Center. Please see the "About the Instructor" page for more info.
Is there a dress code?
Unlike many traditional studios, Dance Innovations has no dress code. Students may wear leotards and tights, or yoga/excersise pants and fitted tops. No baggy tops please! Girls should feel comfortable in their own attire and wear their hair tied back. No special shoes are required.
What are the fitness benefits?
Students will see an increase in strength, flexibility and endurance if they include creative dance into their activities. Creative dance classes also count towards the recommended 60 minutes of daily exercise for kids.
Are parents allowed to observe the class?
There is a waiting area right outside the door for parents. The last class of each 8-week session is designated as an observation class.
Other siblings must wait in the waiting area with parents.
What else should my child bring to class? No other special items are required for the class. Water bottles may be kept in the waiting area. No street shoes or any other items are allowed in the dance space--they may be kept in the waiting room.
What style of dance will my daughter be learning?
Samantha has trained in a variety of styles and she will be teaching a little of each of them. She begins with teaching the basic principles of a technique such as posture, levels, quality of movement, movement patterns and more. She then encourages the children to employ these principles in their own combinations. Most of the styles taught will be derived from modern dance.
